Diadie Bathily

Founder of Afriky Lolo Dance Company in St Louis, Mousori, Diadie is a Master Dancer, Instructor, Costume Designer, and Choreographer. Link to artist page. He has performed with or choreographed for such notable companies as the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble (Denver, CO), the Katherine Dunham Centers for Arts & Humanities (East St. Louis, IL), Ecole de Danse et d’Echange Culturel with Ms. Marie Rose Guiraud (Ivory Coast) and Broadway Dance Center (New York, NY). Diádié is the recipient of the n’gowa Prize for dance in Ivory Coast and has performed at the United Nations, the Village of Arts and Humanities in Philadelphia.

Idy Ciss

His professional debut was with Les Ballets Africans Kolaam Serere. He is also a former member of Ballets Africans. He has performed before presidents of several African countries and appeared on national television in Senegal. Idy was recently awarded The Joseph Holmes Award for Best Choreography in a Music/Dance Program for Dekkal Thiossane (Rebirth of Culture) by the Black Theater Alliance Awards.

Dandha DaHora

Born and raised in Salvador, Bahia, Dandha Da Hora has been a member of Ilê Aiyê, one of Brazil’s most important musical and cultural institutions, since she was 6. A master dancer, vocalist, and percussionist, Dandha invokes the incredible spirit of Ilê Aiyê and Salvador, Bahia, each time she steps onstage. link to artist page

Ismael "Bonfils" Kouyate  

He was born in Guinea, West Africa to a long line of griots, Ismael toured with Fela! from its humble off-Broadway roots in 2008 through its final international tours. He is the subject of a CNN special on Africa in the US where his class of more than 100 people learned and modeled his dance movements. He has also worked with Beyoncé, adding his vocals to her hit Grown Woman, the single featured on her Pepsi commercial.

Papa Assane Mbaye

Immigrating to the United States in 2000 as part of a group performing Mandinke epics called the Ballet Afrique Noire, which included dancers and musicians from Senegal, Mali and Guinea. During his stay, he was offered a contract in Baltimore and then was offered a position at The KanKouran West African Dance Company, a well-established company based in Washington, DC.

Souleymane Solo Sana

With an extensive knowledge of traditional dances of the Mande culture, Solo is highly sought after as an instructor.  He made his choreographic premiere in New York City in the Spring of 2014 and has most recently embarked on the creation of Sira Koro, a dance and music ensemble in Mali, where he serves as Artistic Director and choreographer with a mission to bring a new perspective to traditions while simultaneously providing opportunities for young artists in Mali.

Biza Sompa

Instructor at the University of Michigan and director of Bichini Bia Congo, Jean-Claude Biza (Sompa) began his dance and choreography career in 1970 with the Ballet Damar and the Congolese National Dance Company in Brazzaville, Congo. Link here

Abdou Sylla

Based in Toyko, Japan Abdou Bayefall Sylla, was born in Senegal. He can teaches Djembe, Sabar, Sourouba, Thiakaba (stilts), and Coumpo Dance (dance of the Jola tribe). He is one of the outstanding dancers who will inherit the traditional Senegalese dance from the younger generation.
